India has a population of over one billion people, with 81% Hindus, 12% Muslims, 3% Christians, 2% Sikhs and 2% others, that include Buddhists, Jains and Pharsees. One fourth of the population lives under the poverty line i.e. one whose income is Indian Rupees 10 per day, per person i.e. Rs. 300 per month which is equal to USD7 per month (1USD is equivalent to INR 43). The literacy rate is 59%, with the definition one who can read and write. Over 5.1 million people are HIV+ve, who are about 1.5 of adult population.
